Guidelines For The Control Of Plant Diseases In Western Canada (Archive)

The Western Committee on Plant Diseases (WCPD) compiled the “Guidelines for Plant Disease Control in Western Canada” from the late 1970’s to 2016.  The purpose was to provide up-to-date information on the management of plant diseases for those groups involved in developing plant disease control recommendations in each of the four western provinces.

In 2016 a decision was made to cease updating the publication and to archive the content on the website. Reasons for this decision include the difficulty of keeping the content up-to-date (which has always been done by volunteers), and decreased relevance of the document in today’s digital environment.

Guideline chapters were last updated at varying times (2008-2016) as indicated in the table below.

Warning/Disclaimer

The recommendations in this Guide are now out-of-date and should be used cautiously. While most cultural management recommendations would still be valid, pesticide recommendations change significantly over time. The guide may list fungicides that are no longer registered for legal use, and it will not include many recently registered fungicides. The recommendations in this Guide were never intended to supersede or substitute for recommendations developed by provincial agricultural bodies. Readers are encouraged to consult with provincial extension specialists for further information as disease issues, recommendations, and plant varieties will vary depending on the location. The publisher, editor and all contributors to this publication cannot be held responsible for publication errors or any consequence resulting from the use of this publication. The pesticide recommendations contained in the guidelines do not supersede or substitute the instructions on the label of a product. It remains the responsibility of the readers to follow product information contained on the product label or package insert. All label instructions must be followed carefully. To find currently registered pesticide labels please use Health Canada’s pesticide label search webpage or mobile app. http://pr-rp.hc-sc.gc.ca/ls-re/index-eng.php.
